About Community Testing: County Judge KP George and County health officials encourage all Fort Bend County residents to get tested for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The testing data which is updated daily here on our online response hub — is even more important as we get back to business and reopen the economy.

Why should I get tested? It’s important to get tested because if you know you have COVID-19, you are in a much better position to protect your loved ones, friends, and community members by taking necessary precautions, like self-quarantining, to avoid spreading the virus. We also encourage you to get tested because testing is KEY to understanding how much disease is in our community or where it is in our community. This crucial information is desperately needed to understand the breadth and depth of this virus as we continue working towards getting back to our normal day-to-day activities.

Who can be tested: All the sites are open to residents of Fort Bend County. You are not required to have symptoms to be tested.

Testing Schedule: The tests are provided from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday for all sites except for the Stafford site which operates 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Test results: With the recent spike in testing, the turnaround time for labs to return test results is taking longer than usual. It can take up to 8-10 business days for lab results to come in.

Cost: None to the public. The County is paying all fees related to the tests.

Insurance Information: The County COVID-19 test is free and your insurance is not charged. Residents will still receive their tests for COVID-19 even if they do not provide their insurance information. The question is provided because our partner, AccessHealth, is a Federally Qualified Health Center and they are required to provide reports to their funder indicating how many insured and uninsured patients they have served. If someone is uncomfortable answering that question, they can either say, “Yes, I have insurance but prefer not to provide it,” or they can say, “I prefer not to answer that question.” Not providing insurance information does not prevent anyone from being tested.

Appointments required: To schedule an appointment for either site, click on this link and fill out your information. If you do not have internet access, you can call (281) 238-2363 weekdays from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Pre-screening: After you sign up by website or phone, a representative will contact you to get the pre-screening information. You will be given a unique identification code, your appointment day and time, and the address of your preferred testing site.

Testing Locations: Current testing sites are in Richmond, Rosenberg, Sugar Land, Katy and Stafford. Keep checking this page to learn about new testing sites as they open. Note that some sites are more in demand so will have longer wait times for an appointment.

Details of Testing: Residents must bring their unique identification code to the appointment. The test is administered by an AccessHealth provider while you are inside your vehicle. This system ensures social distancing, best sanitary practices, and a smooth management of traffic flow.

Testing Process: The COVID-19 test has changed. Now, the swab does not need to be inserted far into the nostril. It is only inserted until the tip of the swab is no longer visible. The swab will be rotated in a circular motion around the entire inside edge of the nostril at least three times.

After the test: A representative from AccessHealth will contact you with your test results 8 – 10 days after you have been tested.

Positive Test Results: If you test positive for COVID-19, please follow the important guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on what to do if you are sick and what your household members and those caring for you at home need to do to avoid getting sick too.

Negative Test Results: If you test negative for COVID-19, note that sometimes the test does not detect a very early infection, so you may need to get tested again. Also, you can still be exposed to the virus later, so continue to practice healthy guidelines.

Test Result Special Note: Your test only tells you whether you have COVID-19 at the time you were tested. It does not mean that you are safe from getting infected in the future or testing positive at a later time. That’s why it’s especially important to practice the health and safety measures we all know by heart now. Wash your hands often with soap and water. (If soap and water are not readily available, you can use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.) Wear a face mask when you leave your home. Continue physical distancing of at least 6 feet away from others when you are out in the community. And, please learn and understand your risk as determined by your age or chronic medical conditions.

County Testing Results Made Public: The County wants to be as transparent as possible on the spread of the virus. The response HUB is updated every day with the number of tests performed by the County, the number of positive results and the number of persons who have recovered. Please note that the Confirmed Cases number contains testing results administered at County test sites and those provided by private and commercial health care providers.

Stopping the Spread: Continue to follow medical and health experts’ guidelines mentioned here to stop the spread of COVID-19 by practicing social distancing, washing hands, avoiding large groups, and wearing cloth masks when in public places. Together we can stop this invisible enemy and return to our normal lives as quickly as possible.
